Workshop: Why do Some People Hear Voices in their Heads? Supporting People with Psychosis

Loading Events

API Care and Counselling, the community outreach arm of the Asian Pastoral Institute (API), is happy to organise this workshop on increasing participants’ sense of competency when supporting people with Schizophrenia (also known as psychosis).

Schizophrenia (also known as psychosis) is a severe psychological condition that affects about 1% of the population. People who suffer from psychosis can experience hallucinations like the hearing of voices in their heads and delusions about persecution and threat. Providing support to people who are acutely unwell from psychosis requires sensitivity and skill. Many who try to help often find themselves confused and frustrated. This workshop aims to increase participants’ sense of competency when supporting people with psychosis.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS SHOULD EXPECT TO LEARN

  • Key practical facts about the characteristics and progression of psychosis
  • Develop a more compassionate and person-centred understanding of those who suffer
  • Practical steps to take during first onset or relapse of psychosis
