API Care and Counselling, the community outreach arm of the Asian Pastoral Institute (API), is happy to organise this workshop on equipping participants with psychological first aid skills to provide help to someone who may be developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
Mental health problems can affect anyone in their lifetime. However, many people feel unsure of how to help and what to say in times of a mental health crisis. Equipping yourself with psychological first aid skills enables you to provide help to someone who may be developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. Your help can make a difference in someone’s life because early interventions can reduce severity and chronicity of problems.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS SHOULD EXPECT TO LEARN
- Recognise signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adults, e.g. depression & anxiety
- Strategies to providing initial support in a mental health crisis before professional help is available
- Learning how to get professional help for the person in need
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
- Anyone wishing to sharpen their psychological first aid skills
- Parents, relatives and friends concerned for people they know
- People who may come across others with depression and anxiety in their line of work
- Volunteers and peer supporters in the health and social sectors
