Workshop: Happiness from the Inside Out: Psychological Insights to Finding Meaning Despite Life’s Uncertainties

Loading Events

API Care and Counselling, the community outreach arm of the Asian Pastoral Institute (API), is happy to organise this workshop on the emerging and exciting field of positive psychology that promotes well-being through positive emotions such as contentment, gratitude and hope.

What is happiness? Does getting what we want necessarily lead to happiness? Does the absence of physical or mental health conditions necessarily result in personal happiness? Traditional sources of security like achievement, income and employment are now recognised by psychologists to be insufficient for holistic well-being. This workshop introduces participants to the emerging and exciting field of positive psychology that promotes well-being through positive emotions such as contentment, gratitude and hope. This contrasts with the emphasis on reducing negative emotions seen in previous psychological scholarship. Through in-class individual and group exercises, participants will have the opportunity to deeply reflect on what makes life truly fulfilling.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS SHOULD EXPECT TO LEARN

  • Appreciating the purpose of all emotions and embracing them
  • Experiential exercises that promote deeper life engagement and meaning
  • A self-assessment of the areas of life that has greater potential to flourish

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

  • Anyone finding that the achievements and financial security in their lives still leaves them feeling disengaged and lacking meaning
  • Anyone wishing to enhance holistic well-being for themselves and others
  • People wishing to apply the science of positive psychology in their work and in their relationships
