DESCRIPTION:API Care and Counselling is happy to organise this workshop to help participants learn basic risk assessment skills for self-harm and suicide in adolescence and young adulthood\nMental health challenges are a reality for many individuals\, and learning how to support others can make all the difference. The workshop focuses on understanding self-harm\, suicide risks in young people\, and effective risk assessment techniques. You will also develop principles for communicating effectively with adolescents and young adults. The session includes participative learning from case studies. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\n\nUnderstanding why young people harm themselves and the risks of suicide\nEstablishing a framework for assessing risk when speaking to young people\nDeveloping principles of communicating to adolescents and young adults\nParticipative learning from case studies\n\n\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n\nWho Should Attend\n\nParents or caregivers wanting to learn to identifying risks in young people\nTeachers\, coaches or counsellors interested in supporting youth mental health and well-being\nHealth professionals or caregivers seeking to learn first response techniques for psychological distress in youths\nCommunity workers or volunteers wanting to gain practical knowledge for assisting adolescents and young adults in distress\n\nAbout the Speakers\nDr. Loke Keng Choong\nPhD (Applied Psychology)\, MA (Applied Psychology)\, MDiv\, MA (Biblical Studies)\, BA \n \nKeng Choong works as a counselling psychologist in a government ministry\, having 20 years of counselling experience in various settings\, including the social service and healthcare sectors. He is registered with the Singapore Association for Counselling as a registered counsellor\, and the Singapore Psychological Society as a registered psychologist. In addition\, he is a registered clinical supervisor with these two professional bodies. \n  \nMs. Angeline Yap\nMA (Counselling and Community Work)\, MA (Pastoral Studies)\, BCS (Hons) \n \nAngeline is currently working as a counsellor at a private hospital. During and after her counselling practicums in various community agencies and a nursing home\, she has worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. She has counselled on multiple issues\, including  depression\, anxiety\, stress\, sleep disturbances\, grief\, addiction\, relationships\, and self development.
