SUMMARY:Workshop: Understanding Problematic Computer Use in Childhood and Youth
DESCRIPTION:API Care and Counselling is happy to organise this  workshop to help participants understand and manage problematic/excessive computer use in children and youth\nAs children and youth increasingly engage with technology\, it is essential to equip ourselves with the knowledge and skills to guide and help them manage their activity in the cyber world responsibly and wisely. In this workshop\, you will learn about the characteristics of problematic internet use and common online platforms and games that children use. The session focuses on practical steps for adult supervision and monitoring\, drawing on real-world case studies \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES \n\nRecognising the characteristics of problematic computer use\nSurveying the common types of online platforms and games children and youths use\nAppreciating why children and youths lose control over their use of phones and computers\nAdopting practical steps for supervision and monitoring of internet usage\nParticipative learning from case studies\n\n  \n\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\nWho Should Attend\n\nParents or caregivers concerned about their children’s computer (internet) use\nTeachers or educators interested in children’s internet safety and digital wellbeing\nProfessionals working with children and youth aiming to promote healthy digital habits\nAnyone interested in learning practical strategies for managing excessive computer (internet) use in children and youth\n\nAbout the Speakers\nDr. Matthew Lim\nDClinPsy\, DPhil (Psychiatry)\, BSocSc (Hons) \n \nMatthew has worked in inpatient and outpatient psychology services in London and Singapore\nand has over five years of experience supervising clinical psychology trainees. He serves as a\nlecturer in clinical psychology at a local university and has successfully published several academic\npapers in international peer-reviewed journals. He is a registered practitioner psychologist and\nclinical supervisor with the Singapore Psychological Society. \n  \nMr. Lim Cheng Yong\nMPsy (Clinical)\, MA (Pastoral Studies)\, BPsy (Hons)\, BSc\, PGDip (Education) \n \nCheng Yong works as a clinical psychologist with a local hospital after serving as an educator in the\nlocal education system for the past 30 years. In his clinical training\, he worked with patients with\nanxiety\, depression\, and those coping with grief from loss\, amongst other mental health\nconditions. His primary psychotherapy modalities are Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and\nAcceptance and Commitment Therapy. \n\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n								\n  \nRegistration\nCLOSING DATE FOR REGISTRATION: 28 September 2023 \nNOTE: \n\nYour place in the workshop will only be secured when payment is received.\nPayment needs to be received at least 2 working days before the workshop.\nPlease note that there will be no refunds should you be unable to attend the workshop.
