SUMMARY:Course: Pre-Marital Counselling 2022
DESCRIPTION:API Care and Counselling\, the community outreach arm of the Asian Pastoral Institute (API)\, is happy to organise this course to help couples who are contemplating or preparing to get married.\nUNIQUENESS OF THE COURSE\nWorkshops will be taught by a  multidisciplinary team of professionals from the fields of counselling\, psychology and social work who are qualified in their respective fields of study. \nAll senior instructors of the course have at least 15 years of experience in helping couples prepare for marriage. \nTo increase the realism and practical usefulness of the course\, most seminars are facilitated by trainers and their spouses. This allows for both the husband’s and wife’s perspectives to be brought to the discussion. \n  \nCURRICULUM\nThis course covers the following topics: \n\nStarting on the right footing\nThe genesis of marriage & roles of husband and wife\nBuilding intimacy & strengthening communication\nResolving conflict\nFactors that make or break a marriage\n\n  \nDELIVERY MODE\n\nClassroom Teaching\nInteraction and Discussion\nGroup Activities\nQuestion and Answer\n\n  \nPERSONALITY PROFILING SERVICE\nCouples undergo a Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis (T-JTA) Profile followed by a 1-hour counselling feedback session for this assessment. SUMMARY:Workshop: Why do Some People Hear Voices in their Heads? Supporting People with Psychosis
DESCRIPTION:API Care and Counselling\, the community outreach arm of the Asian Pastoral Institute (API)\, is happy to organise this workshop on increasing participants’ sense of competency when supporting people with Schizophrenia (also known as psychosis).\n\nSchizophrenia (also known as psychosis) is a severe psychological condition that affects about 1% of the population. People who suffer from psychosis can experience hallucinations like the hearing of voices in their heads and delusions about persecution and threat. Providing support to people who are acutely unwell from psychosis requires sensitivity and skill. Many who try to help often find themselves confused and frustrated. This workshop aims to increase participants’ sense of competency when supporting people with psychosis. \nWHAT PARTICIPANTS SHOULD EXPECT TO LEARN\n\nKey practical facts about the characteristics and progression of psychosis\nDevelop a more compassionate and person-centred understanding of those who suffer\n\nPractical steps to take during first onset or relapse of psychosis\n\nWHO SHOULD ATTEND\n\nAnyone interested to learn how to support family members\, friends and colleagues with psychosis\nProfessionals in the health and social sectors that come into contact with clients with psychosis in their line of work\n\nPeer supporters and volunteers in the health and social sectors\n\nABOUT THE SPEAKER\nDr Matthew Lim\, DPhil (Psychiatry)\, DClinPsy\n \nMatthew read a doctorate at the Department of Psychiatry\, Oxford University. This led to his completion of a professional doctorate in clinical psychology at University College London. His clinical experiences as a locum in the Institute of Mental Health has been in inpatient and outpatient psychology services where he has worked with high-risk adults. Matthew is a registered practitioner psychologist and registered clinical supervisor with the Singapore Register of Psychologists. His clinical\, supervisory and consultancy work is informed by behavioural\, cognitive\, acceptance-based\, and systemic psychotherapies.
